Alpbach traditional costumes
“Tracht”, the German word for traditional costumes, in this region dons the colour black for important reasons. Even though the overskirt is made entirely from light green loden cloth, the embellishments are the aforementioned black colour, the bodice is green with a colourful dickie, and the skirt is fastened over and across the chest with red straps.
Once again, a black silk scarf with colourful flower appliqués is worn. The black, pointy hat is extremely characteristic of the region. The most peculiar thing about the women’s Tracht are the four-metre long white, wool stockings with horizontal creases, which cover the legs and look like tapered baggy trousers.
The men wear the same light green loden material as the women and a wide, scarlet red chest cloth with gold trim to protect the neck. Lederhosen with a wide belt and white stockings complete the men's picturesque costuming. The hat is similar to the hat worn by the women.
